Sophie Brooks – Founder and Lead Consultant

Sophie is the Founder at Fit For Purpose, and has 30 years’ experience in sustainability, purpose-building, CSR and communications. She spent 15 years in PR consultancies where she worked largely on technology brands such as Cisco, Intel, HP, Microsoft and Gartner. Since retraining in 2005, and completing her MSc in Climate Change and Development (University of Reading) in 2012, Sophie has advised many companies on their sustainability strategies, reporting and target setting. She is a trained B Leader for B Lab UK and a Fellow of the Institute for Corporate Responsibility and Sustainability (FICRS).

Katie King-Smith – Junior Sustainability Consultant

Katie graduated in 2022 from Yale University with a degree in Environmental Studies, specialising in sustainability and natural resources. She brings a deep understanding of pertinent environmental issues and a passion for driving positive change after interning for NGOs and research centres in Belize and Honduras where she gained experience in conservation research, data analysis, and sustainability initiatives.

Katie combines a scientific and analytical background with a demonstrable passion for placing nature at the heart of business. She supports Fit for Purpose clients through analysis of materiality assessments and communicating well-researched, data-rich insights from the global sustainability arena.

Emma Young – Senior Sustainability Consultant

Emma is a responsible business specialist with over sixteen years of experience working in-house for O2 and as an independent consultant, Emma has specific expertise in sustainability strategy, stakeholder engagement, communications and reporting.

As a consultant, Emma has supported a number of large, UK-based clients including Virgin Media O2, Reckitt Benckiser, The Crown Estate and Centrica to design, develop and communicate sustainable business initiatives – from materiality assessments to copywriting, editing and proof-reading a wide range of non-financial reporting communications collateral.

Before becoming a consultant, Emma was Head of Corporate Responsibility and Stakeholder Communications at O2, with additional responsibility for coordinating responsible business activities across Europe.
Emma works across a range of strategy projects at Fit for Purpose including materiality, target setting and competitor audits.

Advisory Board

Fit for Purpose created its Strategy Board in 2023, as part of a drive to ensure our business strategy and consultancy offering takes into consideration a wider range of stakeholder views and industry standpoints. We meet at least twice a year to review the company’s strategy, impact metrics and progress, representation and business structure.

Tracy Sutton – Non-Executive Director

Tracy is one of Europe’s leading sustainable design and packaging experts with over 20 years’ experience working with some of the world’s biggest brands and most prolific producers of packaged goods. Tracy founded specialist packaging consultancy Root, whose mission is to reduce the impact of every product they work on by helping producers to create the most responsible packaging solutions possible. Tracy is a respected judge for UK, European and Global awards, advisor to international industry trade organisations and packaging institutes and regular speaker at industry events. She is a guest lecturer at Falmouth University and a fellow of the Royal Society of Arts.

Tracy’s role is to provide a critical yet informed industry perspective to the business, helping to review policy, planning, strategy and to help ensure we Fit For Purpose’s business stays aligned with its core social and environmental mission. She brings with her an extensive knowledge of waste, recycling, packaging and the circular, regenerative economy as well as representing a critical stakeholder perspective.

Matthew Ravden – Director

Matt is a Director at Fit For Purpose, and specialises in the development of purpose-led strategic narratives. Having spent 25 years in the B2B tech space advising on communications, Matt then spent ten years at C level at a number of fast-growth tech firms, including Chief Strategy Officer at Mimecast and Chief Marketing Officer at IT Security firm, Balabit . More recently, he has returned to his comms roots, and now specialises in the development and creation of strategic narratives, often working with startups, founders or CEOs who are struggling to get their story out of their heads and embedded in the business.

Rachael Clay – Senior Advisor, Stakeholder Engagement

Rachael is a strategic social innovator with 20 years of experience in the NGO and commercial sectors. As founder of Ethicore, she provides deep insight and stakeholder engagement, with innovation, collaboration and behaviour change to increase organisational impact. Essentially bringing social and environmental sustainability into the core of business success.

Prior to setting up Ethicore in 2008, Rachael was a Senior Manager at Oxfam for over ten years, establishing a Strategy Development and Market Intelligence Function and developing Oxfam’s digital presence. Before this, Rachael worked as an Account Director for a commercial research agency and as a Business Manager at the Ordnance Survey, Britain’s Mapping Agency.

Rachael is particularly focused on the potential to deliver social value, systematic innovation and the facilitation of global partnerships, and provides insights to Fit for Purpose on its strategy and direction as a business.

Briony Fitzsimons – Senior Environmental Reporting Specialist

Briony is a senior sustainability and reporting consultant with 19 years’ experience, focusing on sustainability reporting, strategy and policy, carbon inventories and sustainability reporting. She has extensive experience in producing reports aligned to GRI Standards (both core and comprehensive) as well as having recently worked to produce the SECR submission for a major global energy business.

Briony leads on our sustainability reporting and compliance work.

Camilla Barnes – Consultant, B Corp Advisory

Camilla has been a B Leader (or B Corp consultant) since 2017 and, to date, has supported 22 businesses on their B Corp journeys, from a variety of sectors, ranging from service-based accountants and marketing businesses to businesses with long supply chains in the food and clothing industry.

As an accomplished and versatile project manager, with strong skills in stakeholder engagement and business development, Camilla leads on B Corp consulting projects for Fit for Purpose and supports businesses with all phases of the B Corp journey:

Camilla is a communications and impact specialist with 12 years of expertise in international sustainable development (sustainable agriculture & natural resource management, ecotourism, sustainable livelihoods) and business & innovation.

She has a BA in Spanish and French and an MA in Latin American Development, focusing on sustainability, social policy and human rights.

Julius Duncan – Senior Consultant, Communications and Strategy

Julius has been helping organisations articulate their purpose and place in society for over 25 years and brings his expertise in corporate communications, message development, stakeholder engagement, content creation and reputation management to each client project.

At Fit for Purpose, Julius leads on impact reporting and strategic communications elements of our projects, developing communications strategies and narratives that engage all stakeholders whilst supporting commercial goals.

He started out as a business journalist with the Financial Times Group before moving into financial PR with FGS Global and then Director level roles at Edelman and Cavendish.

His client experience includes – BT, BBC, Vistry, RSA, Ageas, Redrow, Thames Water, FloodRe, Northern Powergrid, Vattenfall, the Environment Agency, and Virgin.

Phil Clarke – Senior Consultant (Environmental Management)

Phil is an Environmental Sustainability leader with more than 25 years’ experience of delivering complex projects and change management programmes for global clients across a range of industries. As former Head of Environmental Sustainability for Capgemini UK, Phil was responsible for developing and setting environmental strategy and targets (including “Net Positive” ambition), delivering impact reduction initiatives, communicating progress to the Board, and was also responsible for the ISO14001 Environmental Management System and related data, including EU Eco Management & Audit Scheme (EMAS) data audits.

Phil leads on our environmental management work, including carbon footprinting, environmental policy, EMS implementation, ISO 14001 consultancy and other technical delivery.

Hannah Worthington – Lead Consultant, Packaging & Waste

Hannah has a degree in Earth Science from Oxford University and is a data analyst and has been working as a junior sustainability consultant at Fit for Purpose since March 2021. A strong believer in stakeholder-led strategies, Hannah is driven to maximise positive impact and inclusivity through her work.​ She has experience in regulation, reporting, and data analysis, incorporating a solid data-informed approach to the development of multiple global Sustainability Strategies. ​A critical friend to clients, she’ll guide you through the strategic business case for change, so you know our suggestions make sense not just for the planet, but your business too. Her unique approach simplifies your data even when the factors are complicated, to give all stakeholders in the business the clearest possible picture of the facts.

Hannah supports Fit for Purpose on collaboration projects with Root where that involve packaging, plastics, waste or policy compliance.

Emma Huntly – Consultant, Social Impact

Emma Huntly has spent her career building ethical brands and businesses. She spent 8 years at the Fairtrade Foundation heading up the annual Fairtrade Fortnight celebration- spearheading the growing Fairtrade movement.

She has held senior positions in ethical businesses, including textiles company, re-wrap and ethical water brand, Belu. Having worked with businesses, NGO’s and campaigners; she bridges worlds to create meaningful partnerships. Most recently at Unity Works, she drove the launch of a new product to a new market for this hospitality social enterprise as their ‘lock-down pivot.

Emma leads on social impact and social value consultancy for Fit for Purpose.
