Strategy and Target Setting
The Challenge
Many businesses often launch into some form of ESG or initial sustainability work without having first thought through the bigger picture strategy. Although this has the advantage of enabling them to get some runs on the board and start to familiarise the business leadership with the importance of taking social and environmental action, it often leads to a piecemeal approach without clear goals, metrics and priorities.
The Approach
Fit for Purpose takes a structured approach to work with clients to develop a clear, comprehensive sustainability strategy that is both ambitious in their context and embedded in a long-term outlook. Armed with a thorough landscape audit and honest review/gap analysis of the business’s baseline position, and in many cases a materiality study, we then embark on the Ambition and Target-setting phase.
This often takes the form of a series of workshops held with leadership and teams selected from the business. These workshops establish the level of ambition across key areas in governance, environmental, social and workplace impact, explore the barriers to overcome and the opportunities to grasp in order to deliver, and build a targets framework to measure progress.
The Deliverables
A clearly articulated long-term vision, supported by a set of headline targets, and a suite of KPIs mapping out the milestones and timeline to reach them.
It’s been a natural next step for Fit For Purpose to support us to develop our wider sustainability strategy – from engaging with our senior leadership team to set our ambitions, to helping us create new strategies and programmes across key workstreams. It has set the foundations for the future and encouraged us to be bolder in our ambitions to have a positive impact on people and planet.”
