Forest Holidays – B Corp

Forest Holidays

The Challenge

Forest Holidays is a purpose-led UK holiday destination company with lodges in the UK’s national forests. Their ambition to become B Corp certified was deeply embedded in the ethos of the business, yet they lacked the knowledge and resources to make the changes needed to score the 80 points required.

The Approach

We worked on a 12-month programme to map where the business stood in relation to all 5 aspects of the Business Impact Assessment, and then designed a detailed Action Plan with a series of different improvement routes to uplift a baseline score of 55pts to reach 90pt+ submission. We then worked closely with the business to help them fill those gaps, and build a more robust governance structure to measure, manage and report on a wide range of sustainability metrics and purpose-led goals.

The Deliverables

Fit for Purpose formed and led 4 Key Workstream Groups to develop policies, align internal programmes and engage with suppliers. We developed a clear articulation of the Land and Wildlife Conservation Impact Business Model and provided extensive support and consultancy throughout the Evaluation and Verification stage. Forest Holidays certified as a B Corp in March 2023, with an industry-high score of 100.6, and an Environment section score of 35. 9, and one of the highest Land and Wildlife Business Impact Model (IBM) scores in the world.

“Fit For Purpose have truly worked as an extension of our team. We’re a one-of-a-kind holiday business, our business model and ways of working are unique. Sophie and team quickly got to grips with who we are and what we’re all about. This was core to our B Corp journey, a journey that we couldn’t have travelled alone. Sophie’s knowledge of the B Impact Assessment is nothing short of amazing; she helped us navigate the requirements and highlighted areas we could improve too, it’s resulted in a number of new processes and policies that are now embedded in our business. Both understanding our business model and the B Impact Assessment led to us unlocking a unique Impact Business Model; this helped us achieve an impressive 100.6 score, something we’d never have identified as a business new to B Corp.”
