After six years of close collaboration Fit for Purpose and Consciam combine to create new sustainability offering for thoughtful businesses.

Consciam, the carbon accounting and impact data consultancy and Fit for Purpose, a specialist advisor in purpose and strategy, have joined forces to create a powerful new offering focused on delivering sustainable value for businesses of all sizes.  Co-founders Phil Clarke (Consciam) and Sophie Brooks (Fit for Purpose), who have decades of experience in the sector between them, will lead the new venture.

“We know from talking to our clients and business networks that the sustainability sector is at an inflection point. Many business leaders are struggling to navigate today’s complex and often uncertain economic and geopolitical landscape. This has created space for scepticism to thrive and led to a deprioritisation of sustainability inside many companies. We are launching Philosophy because we believe that these conditions represent a unique opportunity to turn authentic conviction into lasting sustainable value,” comments Sophie Brooks.

The founders believe purpose-led businesses will inevitably be better equipped to ride the wave of this political and economic change. And yet, with fresh challenges appearing around every corner, it’s crucial also to be agile; to adopt new norms, adapting to the shift in terminology, without compromising fundamental beliefs.

“Our research has identified that businesses are seeking thoughtful and considered sustainability advice that maps closely to the current commercial scrutiny, something Philosophy is well placed to deliver on due to our deep understanding and experience in delivering social and environmental impact,” continues Phil Clarke. “But it’s also about providing actionable information using real data to identify and prioritise companies’ most material issues, manage their impacts and help them focus their investment in the right areas.”

What will Philosophy do?

Acting as partners and trusted advisors, Philosophy will co-create solutions to some of the most material social and environmental challenges clients face by drawing on core skills in environmental measurement and data analysis, stakeholder insight, strategy creation and reporting to deliver a full suite of impact and sustainability support.

The Philosophy team comprises a core team of six, including Katie King Smith (consultant), Patrick Moynan (data analyst), Matt Fishwick and Emma Young (senior consultants).

The consultancy will transfer existing client relationships from both Fit for Purpose and Consciam into the new entity, maintaining long term relationships with businesses from a wide variety of industry sectors, including food and drink, energy, tech, tourism and automotive.

Philosophy has already won new contracts in the footprinting, strategy and B Corp consultancy areas and offers a broader range of services through its extended team of specialists in Lifecycle Assessment, Human Rights and Supply Chain Management, Diversity and Inclusion and Social Value.

With staff based in Cornwall, Oxfordshire and London, the business will service clients throughout the UK and across Europe.
